Deacons

Deacon

Deacon means “one who serves.” This position was possibly begun by the apostles in the Jerusalem church (Acts 6:1-6) to care for the physical needs of the congregation. Deacons are leaders elected because of their respect for the truth, both in what they do and what they believe.

Each Deacon serves a three-year term and is elected by the congregation without regard to gender.   The Deacons of Central Christian Church are assigned to one of the three teams by the Deacon chair.  As representatives of God’s church they share responsibility for filling the communion trays, collecting the offering and lighting the Christ candle prior to the service.  After the service they are responsible for cleaning the communion cups and trays.  As leaders in the church they will also distribute Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies to our shut–ins.
